Methodology — How We Compare Field-Service Software
DRAFT
We do not claim hands-on testing we have not done. We do not invent review scores, customer counts, or test results.
What we do, for every money page:
- Read the vendor's own pricing page and feature page, and record the price, users included, billing terms, and tier gating, with the date checked.
- Cross-check that price against at least one independent listing or review aggregate, and flag conflicts instead of hiding them. Example conflicts we flag: Jobber's affiliate rate and cookie length, Housecall Pro's headline affiliate bounty versus its tiered terms, and Housecall Pro extra-user pricing across sources.
- Calculate total team cost for 1, 5, and 8 users, not just headline price, because per-user and banded pricing change the winner by crew size.
- Name a best-for verdict, never a generic winner, and list a genuine downside for the recommended tool.
- Re-verify prices quarterly. Pages carry a "prices checked [date]" stamp. If a price cannot be re-verified, the page says so.
What we do not do:
- No fake hands-on testing claims.
- No copied copy from vendor blogs or competitor sites. Comparisons are original, even when the underlying prices are public facts.
- No lead forms, no diagnosis, no YMYL claims. This is software comparison, not business, legal, or financial advice.
Affiliate links, when live, do not change verdicts. If a tool pays more but fits worse, the verdict says so.
